Blood of Christ, Inebriate Me

Sunday evening, I attended a church service where I received a card with the following prayer;

Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ, wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me
Within your wounds, hide me
Separated from you, let me never be
From the evil one, protect me
At the hour of my death, call me
And close to you bid me
that with your saints,
I may be praising you forever and ever
Amen

As I read through the prayer the third line made me stop and ponder: what does it mean to be inebriated by the blood of Christ? Usually I consider inebriation to be caused by drinking alcohol or something that confuses your senses in a negative way. But I don't associate Christ with negativity so there much be a deeper meaning. I did a bit of searching and came across this prayer where inebriation is caused by Christ's love.

And truly God's love is shown through the Blood of Christ.

Equating Christ's love with his ultimate sacrifice causes me to pause to reflect: Am I pursuing Christ in a manner that He is able to change me into a beautiful reflection of His love and sacrifice?

In a theological sense, great post! I can't help but laugh a little at how some people of a non-Christian background might be horrified at the vampiric overtones :)
