Boundaries: A Foundation

Over the next year, I plan to blog about my progress on my 2010 New Year's Resolutions. In selecting things that were long term, I thought I was making it easy on myself. It is hard to say that the resolution is broken when it really cannot be defined as not reached until the end of the year. I plan to be honest & open about how things are going. If I start to slack off a bit, please remind me about my plans & goals.

In future posts I will refer to the Resolutions as Boundaries, Debt Payoff, and Weight Loss. Consistent readers know there is another goal of reading a lot of books. I'm loosely grouping it with the resolutions and it will be referred to as Books.

Upon further consideration, I realized that the Boundaries goal permeates all of the others: monetary, food, and time. It is the foundation. If I cannot keep boundaries within my budget, I will not be able to successfully complete the Debt Payoff goal. If I cannot keep boundaries with food, I will not be able to successfully complete the Weight loss goal. If I continue to re-read my favorite books, I will not be able to successfully read 45+ new books.

It must be confessed that in 2009, I started the journey of working on my boundaries. I started saying "no" to commitments and activities I did not enjoy and saying yes to me. Nope, I'm not being selfish. In scripture we see that Jesus set aside time in his schedule to pray, fast, and renew himself. In 2010, I choose to take care of myself instead of indulging my inclination towards an activity packed schedule.
